In accordance with the Law of Ukraine “On labor protection”, a number of actions are being implemented in SE NNEGC Energoatom, specifically, a constant work concerning questions of labour protection is being conducted, a work safety service of SE NNEGC Energoatom is functioning, complex measures aimed at the achievement of determined safe standards, hygiene of work and in-plant environment, increase of the existing level of labour protection and safety culture.

One of the main indexes of labour protection state is a level of industrial injuries and especially fatal accidents. A number of accidents at NPPs is considerably lower in comparison with other industries. Thus, general number of fatal accidents in electrical energy industry during 2001 and 2000 amounted to, respectively, 29 and 35 accidents. In SE NNEGC Energoatom in 2001 and 2000 only two fatal cases occurred (one of them is connected with the exploitation of NPP’s equipment handling).

For comparison: in coal-mining industry a number of fatal accidents is, respectively, 294 and 316, in the agrobusiness industry – 374 and 366, business industry – 112 and 100 fatal accidents.

There were no industrial injuries in SE NNEGC “Energoatom” in August, 2006.
There were 6 accidents in SE NNEGC “Energoatom” for 8 months of the current year.

There were 5 accidents in SE NNEGC “Energoatom” for 6 months of the current year. One of them is group in result of road traffic accident. One accident that had been in 2005, also took into consideration.

There were 3 accidents in SE NNEGC “Energoatom” for 4 months of the current year. One of them is group in result of road traffic accident.

There were 4 accidents in SE NNEGC “Energoatom” in January, 2005. Any industrial diseases and fires were not registered.

22 accidents took place in the Company in 2005. Two of them were with fatal case at the SS RNPP.
12 accidents were with operating personnel. 4 accidents directly connected with operation of NPP’s equipment: two cases of traumatism from electricity (SS ZNPP and SS RNPP), one case that took place during excavation work (SS RNPP), and one accident the cause of that was downfall of electrician (SS KhNPP).
The same situation was previous year. So, 3 accidents directly connected with operation of NPP’s equipment in 2004, 4 – in 2003 and 4 – in 2002.  

A number of fatal accidents 

All the events of industrial injuries with SE NNEGC Energoatom workers are being thoroughly investigated in accordance with the Statement on the investigation procedure and keeping record of fatal accidents, industrial diseases and accidents. According to investigation results, appropriate measures are being taken with the purpose of elimination of reasons resulted in fatal accidents occurrence.

The management of SE NNEGC Energoatom is trying to resolve questions connected with labour protection, creation of safe and innocuous working conditions for NPP personnel, conduction of training and knowledge assessment on labour protection, goal-oriented work of work safety service – have resulted in stably low level of traumatism, stable state of labour protection, thus serving as evidence of quite high level of safety and discipline culture in nuclear power industry.

A state of industrial injuries in SE NNEGC Energoatom during February 2005

There hasn’t been registered any group and fatal accidents, nor industrial diseases.

In February of the current year one accident has happened and it was also registered one accident that happened in 2004, but it was informed only during the reporting period:

1. On February 2, 2005 on his way to job in the buss carrying the shift personnel of South-Ukraine NPP, inspector of turbine equipment has got a backbone injury caused by a fall on the floor at the moment, when the buss was thrown up on pothole.

2. In February of the current year it has been registered an accident that happened at Rivno NPP on November 18, 2004 with a cleaner as a result of fall while leaving the buss at buss stop VRP-750 kW situated on the territory of Separated Subdivision Rivno NPP.

A state of health protection in SE NNEGC Energoatom in 2003.

In 2003 at SE NNEGC Energoatom 14 accidents had been registered (as compared to 15 accidents during the same period of 2002).

In December 2003 at SE NNEGC Energoatom 2 accidents had been registered as a result of non-observance of both official and labour protection instructions.

Group and fatal accidents as well as industrial diseases in 2003 at SE NNEGC Energoatom were not registered.

A state of health protection in SE NNEGC Energoatom in February 2004.

In January 2004 at SE NNEGC Energoatom 1 accident has been registered. Reasons of the accident: non-observance of labour protection instructions, non-conduction of special instruction on safe exploitation of electric installation works and works at heights, unsatisfactory functioning of labour protection management system at the area of wiring works.

Group and fatal accidents as well as industrial diseases in February 2004 at SE NNEGC Energoatom were not registered.

In February 2004 at SE NNEGC Energoatom 1 accident has been registered, as a result of which a worker of Separated Subdivision Rivno NPP had been injured. At the same time, the average commission hasn’t revealed any violations of legislative and other regulatory legal acts on labour protection, technical, organizational and psychophysiological reasons that could result in this accident.
